After completing his undergraduate degree at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1988, Dr. Gitlitz obtained his medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine and then pursued a Residency in General Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center. Following his Residency, he pursued a Fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Upon completion of his Fellowship in 1999, he was recruited to SUNY Stony Brook to join the Faculty of the Department of Surgery and cofounded the first University based Endovascular Aneurysm Center in Long Island.
Dr. Gitlitz then returned to New York City to teach and establish Endovascular Treatment Centers, first for Einstein Hospital and subsequently at an affiliate of his other alma mater, Mount Sinai Medical Center, as Director of Vascular Surgery at Queens Hospital Center. During that time, he continued to advance the care of his patients and the field of endovascular treatment of both venous and arterial disease as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he worked until relocating to Maryland.
Dr. Gitlitz lives in Baltimore with his wife, who is a Surgical Physician’s Assistant, and two sons. He is an avid swimmer, skier, and practitioner of Tai Chi, and has a passion for science and technology.
